About Karen F.

Hey Future Swimmers! 🏊‍♀️ I am so excited for you to be taking this next step in your swim journey! Whether it’s your first day in the water, or you are simply looking to improve your strokes, I can help! No matter where you are in the process, I will meet you where you’re at and help you build your skills and confidence by breaking it down one step at a time. I have over 8 years professional experience in aquatics and a lifetime in and around the water. From the age of 5, I was jumping off the dock and swimming on my own. I grew up a competitive swimmer , shifting into lifeguarding and swim instructing when it came time to get a job. Over the years, I have refined my skillset and been able to help hundreds and hundreds of swimmers find success! With each swimmer, I learn something new, and it allows me to be continually evolving as an instructor and best serve the needs of my clients! I have worked for the majority of lesson providers in Calgary, including YMCA Calgary and True Blue Swim School. This included leadership roles where I was responsible for the development of other instructors and ensuring lesson quality was upheld. Outside of this, I also have experience working with competitive swimmers aged 5-12 and have helped many swimmers improve their strokes and times! I am in the process of getting my NCCP and hope to be coaching for a club one day! Through my years of teaching I have taught all ages ranging from infants to adults, including special needs kids. I have taught kids with ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome, Hearing Loss, Blindness, Cerebral Palsy & Language Barriers! Before COVID, I was the swim instructor for the Cerebral Palsy Association and worked with many families and their kids. I am also CPR C & AED certified and fluent in Spanish. As your instructor, I guarantee three things: 1. A safe space. There’s no judgement! We all start somewhere. Whether you’ve had no luck getting your kid in or you yourself have a life long fear of water- I am here for you! 2. Patience. I will never make you feel rushed or like you can’t ask questions or for help. If something feels overwhelming , we can always pause and talk it through. I would be a fool to think everyone learns the same so don’t be afraid to tell me when something doesn’t make sense! Together we will find your learning style and go from there. 3. Results! I pride myself on honesty and integrity so I will be the FIRST to tell you if I don’t feel I can help you. That being said, I have never encountered a swimmer that didn’t succeed. You can do anything you set your mind to. Learning to swim is not only a necessary survival skill, it also opens a door to a lifetime of experiences! Don’t be afraid to go in the water on your next vacation! Go on the boat! Try scuba diving! This is only the beginning. I look forward to helping you along your swim journey. - Coach Karen
