Swim lessons with Maya M.

I have had a wonderful time teaching swimming and have 13 years of experience! I am also a certified lifeguard and hold certifications in first aid and CPR. In addition to working extensively with those of all ages as a swim instructor, I have also had the chance to harness my talent for working with children in a variety of other settings - dance instructor, camp counsellor, and youth support worker at a children’s rehabilitation hospital. I am a Registered Nurse with previous experience at SickKids Hospital. I pride myself on my calm and thoughtful demeanour. I make sure that my students feel comfortable and listened to during the lesson. I love connecting with my students to find out both their strengths and weaknesses, working to ensure we reach their goals. I believe that swimming is not only a life skill but an activity that can serve to strengthen one's confidence and self-esteem. I pride myself on ensuring that my lessons are fun and enjoyable! I believe what makes me a great instructor is my genuine passion for wanting others to succeed and feel good about themselves. It makes my day to see a student finally have that "aha!" moment in swimming. It is this thoughtfulness that shines through my personality as an instructor and contributes to a very positive environment.
