I wholeheartedly recommend Alana as an outstanding swimming instructor. Her expertise in teaching swimming is matched only by her patience, enthusiasm, and ability to adapt her approach to meet the needs of her students. Alana creates a welcoming and encouraging environment where swimmers of all skill levels feel comfortable and motivated. Her clear instructions and hands-on guidance ensure that her students not only learn proper techniques but also develop confidence in the water. She is especially skilled at working with beginners, helping them overcome fear and build foundational skills, while her advanced coaching techniques challenge experienced swimmers to improve further. Beyond her technical skills, Alana’s warm personality and genuine care for her students make her a joy to work with. She fosters a positive atmosphere that turns swimming lessons into a fun and rewarding experience. I highly recommend Alana for any swimming instruction role. Her passion for teaching and commitment to her students’ success make her an exceptional instructor who leaves a lasting impact.

My daughter loved her and was super excited to swim the whole time. My little was able to swim on her back by the end of the session! Alana kept up with her enthusiasm. Did not dislike anything at all. She made some great suggestions and we will definitely be booking again soon!

About Alana J.

I have over 12 years of experience, working for the City of Calgary and privately with Propel since 2019. I have taught children and adults of all ages and skill levels, and coached athletes training for triathlons such as Ironman 70.3 and firefighters preparing for lifeguarding certifications.

Teaching philosophy

My primary goal is to foster a space free of judgment and encourage creativity and fun throughout lessons. I incorporate games, challenges, and interactive exercises that make learning enjoyable, and I use a variety of teaching methods to keep students engaged. I participate in the pool for the entire lesson; I never teach from the pool deck.

A typical first lesson

Lessons are highly adaptable to your personal goals and skills. We will start by discussing your expectations for lessons and what you hope to achieve. I teach swimming sequentially, building on skills so that swimmers are comfortable in the water and build confidence.
